LymphaTouch for Scar Healing
Jan 02, 2025Unlocking Recovery: How LymphaTouch Supports Scar Healing
I am delighted to integrate LymphaTouch technology into my Scar Therapy treatments here at The Scar Expert clinic, a device that offers gentle, targeted support for scar healing and tissue recovery.
What is LymphaTouch?
LymphaTouch is a vacuum-assisted therapy device designed to improve lymphatic flow, reduce swelling, and enhance tissue mobility. By applying controlled negative pressure to the skin and underlying tissues, LymphaTouch stimulates circulation and encourages your body’s natural healing processes.
How Does LymphaTouch Help with Scar Recovery?
Surgical scars, such as those from C-sections or abdominal procedures, can create adhesions and tension in the surrounding and underlying tissues, limiting movement and sometimes causing discomfort. LymphaTouch helps by:
- Softening Scar Tissue: The gentle suction mobilises scar tissue, improving flexibility and reducing tightness.
- Reducing Swelling: Enhanced lymphatic drainage reduces localised swelling and promotes faster healing.
- Improving Circulation: Better blood flow delivers oxygen and nutrients to the area, aiding tissue regeneration.
- Easing Discomfort: By reducing tension in the scar and surrounding areas, LymphaTouch can alleviate pain or pulling sensations.
Benefits
For patients with a scar, recovering from surgery, cancer treatment or an injury, LymphaTouch offers a non-invasive and gentle but highly effective way to address scar-related issues. It can:
➡️ Promote smoother, more pliable scar tissue.
➡️ Break down adhesions under the surface (even if your scar looks smooth and healed on the surface, there can be a lot going on in the deeper layer of tissues).
➡️ Improve overall comfort and confidence with daily activities like lifting and exercising.
➡️ Help to address indentation at the scar site which results in overhang, and address any irregular, lumpy quality to the scar itself.
What to Expect During a LymphaTouch Session
I do a thorough assessment of your scar first, taking all the relevant details so that I know what treatment protocol is best for your scar. I’ll take various measurements of your scar, including texture, tissue feel, skin quality and capacity for your tissues to glide and move.
Your LymphaTouch session will then be tailored to your needs, along with advice about any products that would be useful for hydrating and nourishing your scar, scar massage techniques and exercise guidance.
The LymphaTouch treatment itself is comfortable, and can either be focused on areas surrounding your scar or over your scar itself directly depending on what’s needed, to release tension and improve mobility.
You may feel a comfortable suction effect as the tissues lift with the negative pressure. There are different sized suction cups and various settings to work on different parts of your scar in different ways.
It’s a safe, effective addition to Physiotherapy, supporting your recovery at both a surface and deeper level.
I’m Looking Forward to Helping you with your Scar
LymphaTouch can help how your scar looks, feels and moves in the here and now but also can help prevent issues with adhesions and movement restriction in the future as well.
